Well back into the office pretty much 1 week after Janeen's and my plans turned to custard and I have to say that was a f$@k of a long week.......
Naturally not a lot got done but I do have to re-focus on the tasks at hand including now creating a presentation for the Perth conference. It is only 12 minutes but if I'm going all that way I want to give it my best shot to win. I will have to consider the audience and what they are looking for, it won't be my usual business audience who often appreciate off beat humour like Armstrong and Millar. I have visions of trying that and getting stony silence!!!
I have to get a few things organised this morning so the week is in hand, I have the children for the next two weeks which will be a bit of a blessing. I did tell the children that there had been a change of plans but as they weren't losing anything, something planned just wasn't going to happen, they just seemed to accept it. Liv has been cuddling me a lot, maybe she senses I need a few extra!!!
I took them to 'The Mousetrap' in Wellington yesterday which they thoroughly enjoyed. It was part of Liv's birthday presents, I was always like to give them experiences rather than stuff which they have plenty of. Might do the same at Xmas but haven't thought that far ahead yet.
I'm also planning my next year now as well, given the circumstances some things need to change and I need to get back into the real fight. It is a little sad but my experience of the academic side of the world hasn't left with me with a burning desire to stay. I like teaching the students and I will find a way to continue my research so I will take the opportunity at ANZAM to see who is exciting to work with and who has access to funding!!!!! Never say it's not the money, learnt that very early on in my career.........
This year hasn't been that good for me and much worse for Janeen I'm sorry to say but with a few tweaks here and there I'm becoming a little excited that reality may get the kicking it deserves, I'm starting to look forward to next year.
Right, lets start. I plan to try and do transcribing at home as well as I'm pretty sure I can do this and watch the cricket at the same time.........
