The major problem being that Nvivo uses Microsoft SQL server and this is quite a grunty application and every time I tried to install Nvivio this part would fail and of course that means the software wouldn't work. So I got clever and downloaded the SQL server separately and installed it correctly and then when I went to load Nvivo it wouldn't need to reinstall it, right? wrong!!!! It did't recognise the installation (wtf???) and carried on and duly failed.
In bed last night trying to get to sleep my mind was chewing over this problem, which made a change from chewing over my other problems, and I had one of those great ideas, just take your Massey computer home and set it up. A scorcher of an idea.
Now in order to do this I would have to approach the IT department, fill in forms, have the computer chaperoned to my house and pledge my first born as collateral. To avoid this and all that additional work I simply took it home first thing Monday morning. I had Olivia with me and believe me if you look like you are doing something that is expected nobody even blinks and now, after a bit of tinkering, I'm able to carry on!!!!
