The holidays are over

I'm sure all parents breath a sigh of relief at the end of the school holidays.  They seem to take your entire attention allowing not much else to get done and in my case last week, nothing.  So I find myself now back at my desk starting to organise the coming weeks and realising that it is nearly February and time seems to be eroding underneath me.

It is funny (well actually it isn't) how quickly you can forget where you are up to in your studies after just a few week off but I think I'm now far enough through so that I can hit the ground running again.  These holidays were a little tougher for a number of reasons but I had the children for a lot more time than originally planned and that put a dent in my PhD expectations.

Anyway no excuses now although this year I have set some rather ambitious goals, BHAGs (Big Hairy Audacious Goals) really but they are very motivating.  The problem will be cash and given the slide of the last couple of years I'm taking two jobs (that add up to 1.1 full time equivalent) and have to fit my PhD and writing around this!!!

But as Raff, the Chilean programmer I used to work with always said - what's the worst that could happen!  I've already been through the mill and back and so this?  This is nothing!
